Norristown’s own Cavan Sullivan was among the 37,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field cheering on his future team, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 15-year-old Philadelphia Union phenom is set to join Manchester City after the 2027 MLS season. On Wednesday, Sullivan got to see the team face Wydad Casablanca in the Club World Cup.
“I’ve never even been at Lincoln Financial Field,” Sullivan said. “So for the first game to be watching my future team is pretty surreal, and I’m having a lot of fun.”
Sullivan attended the match with his mother, uncle, and cousins. He spent time both behind Man City’s bench and in a club-level suite, soaking in the atmosphere as the team rolled to a 2-0 victory on goals by Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku.
While the Premier League club can’t formally complete his transfer until he turns 18 due to U.K. labor laws, Sullivan’s trajectory is already clear. Watching from his hometown only made it feel more real.
