Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles since 2003, could be in line for a major renovation that may include both interior and exterior upgrades, writes Geoffrey A Knox for the Eagles Wire.
While the Birds opened their tenure at their current home with a resounding loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Linc has since witnessed some of the team’s best days. The stadium has hosted five NFC Championship Games, four of which ended up in wins that paved the Eagles’ way to the Super Bowl.
With the Eagles’ lease expiring in 2032 — meaning they are staying put — the Linc is in need of renovations. What those renovations would include, however, is still unclear.
“Upgrades to the stadium would be paramount, but the Eagles could alter the exterior of the stadium as well — using the land as a foundation for a significant change,” said CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr. “Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is committed towards getting the Super Bowl to Philadelphia, which could pave the way for Lincoln Financial Field to transform into a retractable roof stadium… This isn’t out of the realm of possibility.”
