Norristown’s Riverfront Park Shines After Muddy Cleanup Mission

Norristown volunteers braved rain and mud to clean up Riverfront Park, collecting 18 bags of trash during PA’s largest stream cleanup effort.

Rain and mud didn’t stop a determined group of volunteers from sprucing up Riverfront Park in Norristown over the weekend, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.

Eleven volunteers teamed up with Montgomery County Planning Commission staff to collect 18 bags of trash and several bulky items, giving one of the community’s most cherished green spaces a well-deserved facelift.

The event was part of the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy’s annual Stream Cleanup—Pennsylvania’s largest volunteer-driven effort to protect local waterways. In 2024 alone, the initiative brought together over 1,800 volunteers. This year, more than 200 sites participated, including nearby Centennial, Padden, and Dell Angelo Parks.

These cleanups target litter, tires, and even abandoned furniture, restoring spaces that serve as vital habitats for wildlife and gathering spots for residents.

Despite the weather, the message was clear: Norristown cares deeply about its environment—and its volunteers show up rain or shine to prove it.
