Montgomery Township Paints Wavy Lines, Slowing Drivers with Swerving

Montgomery Township adds wavy lines to Grays Lane to curb speeding, leaving drivers puzzled but officials firm on safety.

Drivers headed down Grays Lane in Montgomery Township might do a double take, writes KYW Newsradio.

A newly painted wavy road pattern is making cars zig-zag along the stretch between Doylestown Road and Pioneer Drive.

No, it’s not an early April Fool’s prank. Police confirmed the curvy lines are a real traffic-calming measure, designed to slow drivers down on a road that’s drawn frequent speeding complaints.

According to Montgomery Township Police, the idea came out of a collaboration with traffic engineers and highway safety officers. While some residents on social media appreciated the effort, many questioned the method—wondering why traditional speed bumps weren’t used instead. Others joked they’d ignore the lines altogether.

But officials say they’re serious about safety. “This is a legitimate precaution that has been put in place,” said police spokesperson Ava Komasz. “Our highway safety officers and traffic engineers have determined this is the best course of action for the area to ensure the safety of the local residents.”

Love it or hate it, the wavy lines are here for now—so don’t be surprised if your drive through Montgomery includes a few more twists and turns than usual.
