The North Penn community gathered on Friday September 20 to bid farewell to police officer J. Scott Bendig, reports Tony Didomizio for North Penn Now.
After 35 years of service, Bendig is moving on to semi-retirement while also filling the chief’s position in Upper Moreland. Members of Montgomery Township including friends, colleagues and local politicians lined the walkway of the police headquarters to thank Bendig for his service.
It was an emotional moment for the chief who had been Montgomery Township’s police chief since 2012. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to work with such a great group of people, officers, and professional staff and the citizens of this community,” he said.
Township Manager Carolyn McCreary spoke highly of Bendig at his sendoff. “He is an incredible human being.”
Bendig cites the people who have come through the organization and risen into leadership as the best part of his career. In fact, his leadership in law enforcement extended beyond the workplace. His son, Ryan is a Pennsylvania State Trooper.
Following Bendig’s departure, Lt. William Peoples succeeded as chief.
