Residents have been complaining about drivers speeding and ignoring stop signs on side streets and the increasing traffic on Main and Broad streets.

Lansdale has approved a traffic study to determine which side streets are used as shortcuts by drivers, writes Dan Sokil for The Reporter via MSN.

The Lansdale Borough police department and public safety committee have been working toward this study for a few years as they received complaints from residents about drivers speeding and ignoring stop signs on side streets and the increasing traffic on Main and Broad streets.

Police Chief Mike Trail said his department had worked with the town’s traffic engineer to identify a bypass route including Norway, Sycamore and Lombardy Drives which drivers have been observed using to get around traffic backups on Main Street.

One resident Joe Troiani who lives on Lombardy Drive said during a recent council meeting, “The traffic calming will pay its dividends over the years. Me and my fellow neighbors do you have young children in the neighborhood, who do have long term plans to raise (families) and continue to help this community grow,” he said.

The study won’t be used to road degradation and the costs of wear and tear on the roads in Lansdale.
