New CEO of Blue Bell-Based Unisys Sees Opportunity for Local Growth

Mike Thomson, Blue Bell-based Unisys' new CEO, plans to expand the company’s presence in the Philadelphia region and in the tech industry

Mike Thomson, who became CEO of Blue Bell-based Unisys on April 1, plans to expand the company’s presence in the Philadelphia region and within the tech industry, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Thomson, who succeeded Peter Altabef as the company’s leader, is a graduate of Philadelphia University and Villanova University. He previously served as Unisys’ COO and CFO.

Thomson takes over the company amid declining revenues and a 40 percent drop in stock value, which resulted from an internal investigation and a $4 million settlement with the SEC. While he plans to monitor the stock, Thomson expressed confidence that “as we continue to grow our company, that share price will take care of itself.”

He believes there is an opportunity to kickstart growth locally, and is already working on bringing the company’s C-suite to the Blue Bell headquarters. With more of the executive leadership team in the Philadelphia area, additional jobs will be needed to support them.

Furthermore, as Blue Bell is one of Unisys’ two domestic “global delivery centers,” it expects to see a surge in hiring to support its client base of state and local government agencies.
