The hope was there would be an announced Crozer Health sale to a nonprofit Tuesday. That didn’t happen, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Instead, negotiations continue as legal fees mount, with another hearing scheduled today.
Meanwhile, The Foundation for Delaware County has provided another $6 million to keep the hospital system open.
Bill Curtin, a lawyer for Crozer Health’s bankrupt owner, Prospect Medical Holdings, had no updates and no information about a potential buyer Tuesday.
“There are some sensitivities regarding public disclosure of anything further regarding the current process,” Curtin said.
Efforts continue behind the scenes by state and county officials to bring local nonprofits together to acquire Crozer’s two hospitals, Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital.
As of Tuesday, the Foundation has provided $20 million toward maintaining the hospital system under a March 12 agreement with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office.
Under the agreement, the Foundation provided an immediate payment of $7 million and was given an “option to provide additional funding to the new Crozer Health system.”
Lawyers and other professionals involved in Prospect’s bankruptcy have billed Prospect $16.8 million for work through Feb. 28. Prospect filed for bankruptcy on January 11.
