Pennsylvania is home to many speakeasies and secret bars that recall a period in the nation’s history when all bars had to be secret, writes Kalena Thomhave for The Keystone.

You can visit three of the best ones in Philadelphia – if you can find them!

The Ranstead Room is located behind an unassuming door with an “RR” stamped on it in an alley off 20th Street near Ranstead Street in Center City. Once you make your way inside, you can order one of its inventive cocktails or one of the classics.

Fermentery Form is a brewery located in West Kensington. While it has a specified location, it only opens sporadically, by announcement. If you want to know if the brewery is open, check its Facebook and Instagram on Saturdays for the green light.

CookieLab by Insomnia Cookies on 833 Wharton Street in East Passyunk is also not a bar, but instead a cookie speakeasy. It is a hidden spot that allows you to enjoy a premade cookie or create your own wild flavors. To get in, you need to grab the password from the CookieLab Instagram and walk up to the secret entrance behind the bookcase at the Insomnia Cookies.
