Norristown native Cavan Sullivan may be just 14, but his soccer journey is already the stuff of legend, writes Tom Hindle for Goal.
Yes, there was a ball in his crib. Yes, there’s video of him dribbling with both feet at just 18 months. But beyond the clichés, what sets Sullivan apart is a natural instinct for the game—and a fiercely competitive family that’s kept him grounded.
Sullivan has always played well above his age group, but it was the 2023 Generation Adidas Cup that put him on the global radar. Just 13 at the time, he stunned Arsenal’s U15 squad. A year later, sporting bleached hair and Prada boots, he led the Philadelphia Union to the title and scored a key goal in the final.
Still, there’s no ego here. His older brother Quinn, a Union midfielder, didn’t hesitate to critique Cavan’s finishing in front of the cameras after the younger Sullivan’s first-team debut.
Off the pitch, brotherly rivalries rage just as hard—family 2v2 games have even been called off after mini blowups over goalie disputes.
“It wasn’t even that deep,” Cavan shrugged with a smile. “(My brother) smashed the ball at us. We got into a fight, and then we just dipped after that.”
