Norristown’s Cavan Sullivan, the 15-year-old Philadelphia Union sensation, takes center stage in Apple TV+’s new docuseries, writes Ariel Simpson for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Onside: Major League Soccer chronicles the 2024 MLS season, offering an inside look at Sullivan’s rapid rise in professional soccer alongside his older brother, Quinn.
Featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, the documentary highlights the challenges Cavan faces competing against seasoned professionals. His mother, Heike, acknowledges the difficulty her son faces playing against grown men. Yet, Cavan remains unfazed, explaining his aggressive playing style as unguardable.
His historic debut last July, where he became the youngest athlete in a major American sports league, is a key moment in the series. The expectations are high, and teammates, including veteran Alejandro Bedoya, push him to prove himself.
With a future transfer to Manchester City on the horizon when he turns 18, Cavan embraces the challenge of standing out at such a young age. “Yeah, I got a target on my back. But I love it,” he says.
Onside: Major League Soccer premiered Friday on Apple TV+, offering an intimate look at one of soccer’s most exciting young talents.
