Zack Steffen had advice for Norristown’s Cavan Sullivan on his new stint with Manchester City, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Downingtown native Steffen came home as his Colorado Rapids took on the Philadelphia Union last Saturday. At the same time, Sullivan was in England, playing for Manchester City’s U-21 team. The 15-year-old midfielder is in the midst of a two-week training stint with the Premier League team, part of a $5 million transfer agreement that will officially take effect when he turns 18.
Steffen, who played sparingly for Man City before being sent on multiple loans, had a message for Sullivan. “Stay patient and work hard, and wait for your time,” he said.
He continued. “It is hard, man — especially this day and age with social media and everything, and we all think that things have got to come to us right now. That’s just not how life works.”
Sullivan’s potential is immense, and Manchester City is already hyping his development. But Zack Steffen stresses that making it at the highest level is about more than just talent. It’s about timing and resilience.
