New Hanover resident John Curcio is preparing for his final 100-mile “arm biking” fundraiser on Wednesday, March 5, at the Spring Valley YMCA.
A dedicated staff member and longtime member of the YMCA, John Curcio has used his annual ride to raise funds for the Y’s Annual Campaign, which provides free or discounted memberships, childcare, camps, and swim lessons. His goal this year is $15,000.
John’s journey with the YMCA began after a roofing accident left him paralyzed 35 years ago. He credits the Spring Valley Y for transforming his life, improving his health, and giving him a sense of community. Now a familiar face at the facility, he works to support others and trains daily on the arm bike.
To celebrate John’s final ride, the Spring Valley YMCA will host themed group fitness classes throughout the day, including cycling, strength training, aerobics, and a nostalgic ’90s workout. The event will culminate in an Open Ride, where John is expected to cross the 100-mile finish line.
The event is free and open to the public, with donations encouraged. Supporters can cheer John on in Gym A/B at the Spring Valley YMCA in Royersford. To contribute or learn more about his inspiring journey, visit the YMCA.
