Two Ambler teachers are reaping the joys of parenthood. Connie and Matt Hoag grew up a block away from each other, but it wasn’t until they both worked at the YMCA in 2012 that they connected, writes Anndee Hochman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

They married in 2017, and by 2020 the couple had their first-born child, Samuel Matthew, who is now three years old. The last three months of Connie’s pregnancy were overshadowed by the COVID-19 lockdown.

“It was weird, being in our house all day. But it was also a really interesting bonding experience,” says Connie.

The next pregnancy was not any easier. Connie’s mother had passed away that spring, and she miscarried in August 2021. While the couple dealt with grief and sorrow, they tried again in 2022 to deliver a second child.

In December. Lincoln John was born. But the rough patch wasn’t over. Since he had respiratory problems, he had to stay in the NICU. Matt later tested positive for COVID-19 soon after his birth . The family was able to “divide-and-conquer” all the responsibilities and are now enjoying spending time with their two healthy kids.

“Your time is not really your own anymore. Even my thoughts. I dream about my kids. It’s all-encompassing,” says Connie.
