Museum of the American Revolution to Embark On New $1 Million Renovation Project

The Museum of the American Revolution is conducting a $1 million renovation project, it's largest of such since it opened in April 2017.

As it prepares for 2026, the Museum of the American Revolution will be undergoing a $1 million renovation project to enhance its many offerings, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The project will mark the museum’s largest since first opening its doors in April 2017.

The renovation will include downsizing the museum’s gift shop, which is nearly 3,000-square-feet. This will help free up space to relocate its interactive Revolution Place to the first floor. This will result in a condensed gift shop of about 1,590 square feet, meanwhile the Revolution Place will fill 1,300 square feet near the museum’s entrance.

Revolution Place has been closed since after President’s Day so work could start on its new location. The exhibit is set to reopen to the public on April 5.

Since opening to the public in May 2018, nearly 64,000 have visited Revolution Place.

Museum of the American Revolution CEO Scott Stephenson noted that the relocation and expanded offerings at Revolution Place can play big dividends.

“It creates an opportunity to hold visitors longer, give them more linger time in the building,” said Stephenson.

His goal is to increase the museum’s annual visitation from about 171,800 visitors in 2024 to 250,000 in 2026.
