King of Prussia’s Megan Griffith Leads Columbia Back to NCAA Tournament for Second Straight Year

King of Prussia’s Megan Griffith leads Columbia to its second straight NCAA bid, making Ivy League history.

For the second straight year, King of Prussia native Megan Griffith, has coached Columbia University into the NCAA Women’s Tournament—a groundbreaking achievement for the Ivy League, writes Gabriela Carroll for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Lions secured an at-large bid after winning the regular-season title, marking only the third time in history that multiple Ivy League teams have made the tournament, and the first with three.

Despite falling to Harvard in the Ivy League Championship, Columbia earned a No. 10 seed and will face Washington in the First Four on Thursday night in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. A win sends them to play No. 6 West Virginia in the Birmingham Regional on Saturday.

Griffith’s impact extends beyond wins and losses. A former Columbia player, she took over as head coach in 2016 and has since transformed the program, winning three straight Ivy regular-season titles and becoming the school’s winningest coach with 122 victories. She credits improved recruiting across the Ivy League, which began with her mentor, Courtney Banghart, at Princeton.

Griffith’s ultimate goal? Winning an Ivy League Tournament to avoid Selection Sunday uncertainty. But for now, her focus is on making another historic March Madness run.
