Local Leaders Push for Hospital, Convention Center to Support King of Prussia’s Boom

King of Prussia leaders say a full-service hospital and convention center are key to meeting growing demand.

As King of Prussia continues to grow rapidly, local leaders say the next big steps are clear: the community needs a full-service hospital and a convention center, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Upper Merion Township Supervisor Greg Waks said a hospital that serves the entire population—not just children or outpatients—is essential for the area’s future. While CHOP’s pediatric facility and Main Line Health’s outpatient center offer quality care, neither has inpatient beds. “What we really could use is a facility where if there’s an emergency our residents can go, or our ambulances can go to take whoever needs to go there,” Waks said.

King of Prussia’s population has grown more than 6% since 2020, and housing and job numbers continue to rise.

Additionally, hotel owner Derek Sylvester said a convention center would help local hotels and attractions thrive. With 19 hotels and nearly 2,800 rooms, he sees a big opportunity to attract overnight guests with multi-day events.

“I think that’d be a great way to kind of generate some overnight business as well as daytime business for all our attractions,” Sylvester said.

Both ideas reflect King of Prussia’s evolving role as a regional destination—and the need to keep up with demand.
