Prospect Medical Holdings is in negotiations to sell Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital to an undisclosed nonprofit, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
That’s what a Prospect Medical lawyer told a federal bankruptcy judge Wednesday, March 19.
A bankruptcy hearing March 26 will determine if Prospect asks to approve the sale or close both hospitals. .
“We are making good progress. Critical parties, both those that are known to your honor and those that hopefully will be known to your honor at some point in the very near future, have been working literally 24 hours a day on this,” said Prospect attorney William Curtin to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stacey Jerrigan.
Melissa Van Eck, a lawyer with the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office involved with the negotiations, said they were “cautiously optimistic that we have a long-term plan.”
Prospect had filed to close the hospitals by March 14, but state and county funds, and funds from The Foundation for Delaware County, have kept the hospitals going to the end of March.
Delaware County and state officials stated in a letter to Judge Jerrigan that closing Crozer would lead to collateral job losses at businesses that serve hospitals and medical offices.
