Quakertown’s Sabrina Carpenter Responds to Criticism of Her Sexy Stage Persona, Rejects Industry Double Standards

Quakertown native Sabrina Carpenter responded to criticism against her, embracing confidence and rejecting industry double standards.

Quakertown native Sabrina Carpenter said she would never tone down her sexy stage persona after music mogul Pete Waterman called her performances “offensive,” according to a staff report from The Express Tribune.

Carpenter embraced her identity, saying that critics are unable to handle a woman who is confident in her own skin.

“My message has always been clear — if you can’t handle a girl who is confident in her own sexuality, then don’t come to my shows,” said the 25-year-old pop star.

Carpenter also acknowledged that this kind of backlash is nothing new for women in the industry.

She highlighted other prominent female artists like Rihanna, Britney Spears, Madonna, among some examples.

Waterman accused the singer of setting back women’s rights, commenting “If you’re asking to be respected, don’t come on in a G-string.”

However, Carpenter rejected the comments saying it was hypocritical and regressive.

She added that it was an indication that female performers should not be able to embrace their sexuality, whether that’s in their lyrics, the way they dress, or in the manner in which they perform.

Carpenter wants women to be kind to each other, and be confident in themselves.
