Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has put together a season filled with incredible highlight reel runs as he rushed for over 2,000 yards in the regular season.
However, his success rushing the ball has a lot to do with the Eagles’ big offensive line, write Joshua Robinson, Andrew Beaton, and Rosie Ettenheim for The Wall Street Journal.
The Eagles’ five starting linemen are an average of 6’6″ and weigh about 338 pounds, making them the tallest and heaviest offensive lineup ever seen in Super Bowl history.
The hope is that their unique offensive lineup will give them an advantage.
“If you’re really big and long and hard to get around, and I put two or three or four guys next to each other like that, then how the heck are you going to squeak your way through?” said Eagles line coach Jeff Stoutland.
The two main stars on the O-line are veteran Jordan Mailata, who was named a second-team All-Pro this season, and newcomer Mekhi Becton.
However, collectively, they have helped Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts make big runs during key moments of games.
Looking ahead to the Super Bowl, Becton’s noted that the goal is to dominate the people in front of them.
