The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) has announced its lineup of programming and events in honor of Black History Month, which this year is nationally themed “African Americans and Labor.”
The 2025 theme delves into the vital contributions of Black people across the spectrum of work, skilled and unskilled, free and unfree, voluntary and vocational. From the agricultural expertise of enslaved Africans to the entrepreneurship and organized labor movements that transformed economies and communities, Black labor has been a cornerstone of resilience, innovation, and justice across the U.S., Africa, and the Diaspora.
“We look forward to welcoming visitors to the Museum throughout Black History Month and providing comprehensive programming that will engage visitors of all ages,” said Dr. Ashley Jordan, President and CEO for AAMP. “Throughout February, AAMP will host events that bring people together to celebrate African American heritage and spark important discussions that explore the significant ways that Black people’s voluntary and involuntary labor has shaped America’s history, economy, and social justice movements.”

For its featured event, on February 19, 2025, AAMP will host the Love & Whiskey Unfiltered Book Tour Experience with New York Times bestselling author and founder of Uncle Nearest, Fawn Weaver, accompanied by an exclusive, one-of-a-kind whiskey tasting led by 5th-generation Nearest Green descendant and the 4-time Master Blender the Year, Victoria Eady Butler. The event will feature a fireside chat with Weaver where the audience will be able to ask questions about Weaver’s experiences as an entrepreneur and author.
Black History Month programming also includes a Super Bowl Watch Party; a film screening with Philly Black Workers Project; a brunch celebrating Black love; an in-depth art discussion about AAMP’s “Shared Vision: Portraits from The CCH Pounder-Koné Collection” exhibition; and a Black History Month-inspired costume party for children. Registration for each event is available through the museum’s website. This year’s Black History Month programming at AAMP includes the following (in chronological order):
- Sunday, February 9: Super Bowl Watch Party at AAMP
