In the midst of winter, dream of springtime tulips! Learn the art of fraktur at the “Tulips in Winter” workshop at the Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, on Feb. 8 from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM. Instructor and Artist Emily Smucker-Beidler will introduce students to fraktur through the history and creation of one of its most popular motifs: the tulip.
During this three-hour workshop, participants will explore how fraktur artists used pattern and color to create colorful tulips. Participants will start with their choice of a tulip template and then be shown how to create a small, finished piece in their style. They can create a piece for framing or a bookplate for a gift.
The cost of the workshop is $60 for members ($65 for non-members). Students can bring their own watercolors or buy a fraktur watercolor set from Smucker-Beidler for $20. Preregistration is required and class size is limited. To register, visit MHEP or call 215-256-3020.
