For 111 years, the Hiway Theater has stood as a cornerstone of entertainment in Jenkintown, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.
The iconic borough staple features various events throughout the year, from its Sci-Fi Film Festival to classic movies to holiday movies.
Now, the theater needs support to continue operating, as its facade requires repairs.
“Our historic facade needs to make critical repairs to the masonry and stone to prevent further water damage,” said the theater in a Facebook post. “Help us keep the lights on in this historic theater and ensure that we can continue to entertain and inspire generations of future Jenkintownians.”
To help achieve this goal, the theater has launched a fundraising campaign in the hopes of raising $66,400.
“We had an amazing 2024,” said the theater. “Thanks to your support. For 111 years, the Hiway Theater has been a community treasure.”
According to officials, ticket sales make it possible to screen the hits, but memberships and donations make other programs possible, including the $5 Family Matinee Series, Classic Screenings, Terrorthon, and Sci-Phi Fest.
