After Chef MoWils gained attention for her savory cupcakes by local culinary legend Jose Garcas, she took her talents to Bryn Mawr.

Chef Mowils takes her award-winning cupcakes to Bryn Mawr, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Tonight.

Chef MoWils first gained recognition at Taste of Philadelphia, where Chef Jose Garces awarded her first place for her unique creation: savory cupcakes. Bite-sized and flavorful, her Buffalo chicken cupcake and The Tapas—a spicy corn base topped with smoked salmon, tomatillo guacamole, and lime shrimp—left Garces amazed. “I never heard of a savory cupcake,” he said. “But it was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Don’t give up.”

Mowils has no formal culinary training, but credits her skills to her grandmother. After trying different flavors and textures, Chef MoWils launched It’s A CupCake!, an upscale catering company specializing in weddings and events. She also crafts sweet treats like red velvet and sweet potato cupcakes, gaining recognition in Food + Wine and People Magazine.

In 2015, a rare kidney disease left her bedridden for three years. Determined to recover, she followed a holistic health protocol that restored her health. By 2023, her business was thriving. In 2024, she opened a catering office in Bryn Mawr, offering corporate lunches, specialty desserts, and pre-event tastings.
