Megan Genkin, a former teacher from Gladwyne, used the forced quarantine during the pandemic to finally build the business she always wanted – a bakery called Sweet Yums Cakes, writes Erica Moody for Philadelphia Magazine.

In order to get started, Megan Genkin and her husband Matt had to rethink the layout of their home to come up with space for Genkin’s new home office.

With the help of architect John Milner Associates from Chadds Ford, Wayne construction company D.F. Sheridan, and the Philadelphia interior design store Shophouse Design, the Genkins turned their mudroom into a functional and sophisticated office for Sweet Yums Cakes.

“Megan and Matt had some unused real estate to allow for areas they actually needed in their home,” Betsy Helm from Shophouse Design said. With just a little guidance and careful styling, they were able to turn the space into a truly functional, classy area.

Now that the office space is ready, Genkin can truly allow her business to thrive.

Her services are available on the Sweet Yums Cakes website, along with a slideshow of mouthwatering cakes and cupcakes she has created.
