Abington’s Project Chemo Crochet Creates Warm Blankets for Cancer Patients

Abington’s Project Chemo Crochet delivers warm blankets created by volunteers from around the world to cancer patients who are undergoing treatment, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc

“The best part is, each blanket that we give to the cancer patients, they feel the love wrapped around them by multiple people, not just one person,” said Linda Forrstrom, of Abington Township, Director of Project Chemo Crochet.

Volunteers send crocheted squares to the nonprofit’s Abington location, where around 25 locals took part in putting the blankets together.

“Our blankets are made up of nine-inch squares by six, so there is 24 squares for each blanket,” said Forrstrom. “We get a lot of squares. And these are people that send them in to me from Portugal, Germany, India, as far as Hawaii we get some. It amazes me.”

The nonprofit sends blankets to cancer patients nationwide, with the recipients being nominated through the organization’s website. Project Chemo Crochet distributes more than 1,000 blankets annually.

“It’s very comforting to know how many lives we’ve touched,” said  Forrstrom. “I mean, to think, over a thousand people we’ve been able to comfort this year.”
