Eighty-year-old Lansdale resident Bruce Rubin is in search of a new teammate in shooting hoops, writes Jeff Neiburg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The talented player is planning on representing the BUX-MONT Warriors at the National Senior Games in 2025, something he’s been participating in since 2009.

Due to both his longtime teammates recovering from injuries, Rubin is looking for 80-to-84-year-olds with a minimum height of 6-foot-5. They can be located anywhere if they’re willing to travel and attend one of the state tournaments.

The road to this 2025 National Senior Games in Des Moines has not been easy. On top of his two teammates in recovery, Rubin himself injured his back last summer.

While waiting in the hospital, he learned that he had Stage 3B breast cancer. Rubin was hesitant to begin chemotherapy, especially since it would impact his ability to play basketball.

With the help of his son, research led him to doctors at Penn who came up with a plan to undergo twenty radiation treatments.

Rubin has officially beat cancer, and it’s unlikely to return, according to his doctors. Following the Senior Games in Iowa, his goal is to play in the 2029 games.
