Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course in Flourtown made the Top 100 course in the US, according to Golf.
The private course has earned number 98. It was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1922 and restored by Keith Foster in 2013. The restoration showcases the brilliance of classic golf architecture with modern refinements.
Foster’s restoration revived Tillinghast’s design magic, emphasizing variety and spaciousness. The course blends open greens, inviting running shots, with perched, heavily defended ones, highlighting Tillinghast’s genius for diverse green settings. A standout feature is the Great Hazard—a massive central bunker bisecting the 7th fairway. Wissahickon also boasts one of the East Coast’s finest finishing holes, a risk-reward par-4 demanding precision to avoid a creek hugging the fairway’s left side.
Raters praise Wissahickon’s long-overdue recognition, noting its role as a pioneer in restoration. Since starting renovations in 2008, the course has hosted premier events, including the 2024 USGA Four-Ball. Its layout offers a mix of challenge and strategy, from its brilliant routing to its impressive two-shot holes.
