Jefferson Health-Abington Hospital and Einstein Medical Center Montgomery are two of thirteen Philadelphia-area medical centers that are rated as “high performing” in U.S. News & World Report’s latest ranking of the nation’s top maternity hospitals, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care ranking identifies Greater Philadelphia as one of the ten markets nationwide. The area has the largest number of “best” hospitals offering labor and delivery services for pregnancies.
According to Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist at U.S. News, the high-performing hospitals “showcase exceptional care for expectant parents, demonstrating significantly lower C-section rates and severe unexpected newborn complications” when compared to other hospitals.
The U.S. News report highlights that hospitals ranked as “best” for maternity care are 47 percent more likely to earn the “baby-friendly” designation from Baby Friendly USA. These top hospitals also have a 22 percent lower C-section rate compared to those not recognized in the report. They also have 44 percent lower rates of severe unexpected newborn complications, among other notable advantages.
