The Whole Foods store in Plymouth Meeting is among the first small group of locations nationwide where Amazon is planning on adding a robotically operated “mini warehouse,” writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.
According to the e-commerce behemoth, this addition will provide customers with the option to buy groceries online. The update will also shoppers to have their orders fulfilled and bagged through an automated process in the mini warehouse. Customers will then be able to pick up their orders as they check out.
Shoppers can place their order using either Amazon’s website or the company’s existing grocery ordering service, Amazon Fresh. Customers will now be able to purchase big brand names that are not usually carried by Whole Foods, such as Pepsi and Kellogg’s products, while also being able to choose from Amazon’s general online offerings.
The mini warehouses that are being tested will have more than groceries. Other basic home needs, clothing, sporting goods, and supplies will be among the other item on offer to shoppers.
The date for the opening of the mini-warehouse has not yet been set. It is expected to be sometime in 2025.
