Merion Golf Club Tops List of Region’s Most Asset-Rich Country Clubs
Merion Golf Club in Ardmore topped the list of ten nonprofit country clubs in the region with the largest asset values in 2022, write Andy Medici and Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
To compile the list, Business Journals analyzed IRS forms for nonprofit country clubs for 2022.
The famed Merion Golf Club reported over $47.6 million in assets for that year. That put it in the first spot in the region and at No. 43 nationwide. Business Journals included almost 1,500 nonprofit clubs in their analysis.
Merion Golf Club saw its asset value increase by eight percent compared to 2021.
The Main Line club has hosted five U.S. Opens and is scheduled to play host to several more golf championships in the coming decades, including co-hosting the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship, the 2034 and 2046 U.S. Women’s Opens, and the 2030, 2040 and 2050 U.S. Opens.
The club’s 112-year-old East Course was also recognized by Golf Digest as one of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses, coming in sixth place.
