Manoj Bhargava, founder of 5-Hour Energy and graduate of The Hill School in Pottstown, has committed much of his fortune to philanthropic efforts, writes Margot Patrick for The Wall Street Journal.
He is particularly aimed at helping those in need in India. After dropping out of Princeton University in the 1970s, Bhargava spent time in India as a monk. This experience shaped his charitable outlook.
Since his success with 5-Hour Energy, Bhargava has devoted significant resources to various causes. He established a lab near Detroit focused on developing inventions like a stationary bike that generates electricity. The intention is to assist communities with limited access to power. Bhargava’s focus has been on applying innovative technology to solve global problems related to clean water, energy, and healthcare.
His endeavors have been closely linked to The Divine Light Mission, a spiritual movement Bhargava became associated with in India. He has worked with Indu Rawat, a key figure in the movement, to channel millions of dollars into projects aimed at providing healthcare, education, and clean water to underserved populations in India.
A member of the “Giving Pledge,” Bhargava has vowed to donate 99% of his wealth to charitable causes. His foundation has reportedly helped millions of people across the world. They create to provide meals for underprivileged children and support healthcare facilities.
