Norristown Area School District Receives Grant to Improve Schools

Norristown Area School District receives large funding to improve environmental hazards in area schools.

Norristown Area School District receives over $84,000 in state funding, reports Rachel Ravina for Main Line Media News.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education issued the grant as part of its Public School Environmental Repairs Program. State Representative Greg Scott was instrumental in the process. “Every child deserves a safe and healthy learning environment, free from environmental hazards,” he said.

The Repairs Program aims to address issues like mold, asbestos, lead and drinking water. The grant is part of a $75 million package ear-marked for environmental improvements in schools throughout the state.

Governor Shapiro said the money eas secured as part of the year’s budget. “My administration is committed to ensuring that Pennsylvania students have world-class school facilities that are safe and healthy so they can focus on learning and growing at school,” he said.

The Norristown Area School District is among 109 districts throughout the state to receive funding. Public schools, career and technical centers and charter schools are eligible for the grants.

The funding will allow schools to improve the learning environment while taking some of the burden away from the local taxpayers.
