Governor Josh Shapiro made a visit to Souderton to unveil “Aging Our Way, PA” – a bold 10-year strategic plan to improve services for Pennsylvania’s rapidly growing senior population, writes John Worthington for The Morning Call.
By 2030, one in three Pennsylvanians will be 65 or older.
The plan aims to streamline and bolster the senior service system, with priorities including improved access to long-term care, healthcare, financial services, digital literacy, transportation, food, and housing.
It’s a result of over a year of collaboration and input from 20,000+ seniors, caregivers, community members, and stakeholders.
Shapiro’s 2024-2025 budget proposal includes $11.7 million to implement the plan, with funding boosts for Area Agencies on Aging, caregivers, and a new Alzheimer’s division.
With Pennsylvania’s $14 billion surplus, Josh Shapiro stated, “Now is the time to invest” in valued senior services.
State leaders applauded the comprehensive vision to help older adults “age with dignity and independence.”
The plan promises crucial support as Pennsylvania addresses unprecedented growth in its senior population.
