Lochel's Bakery returns with their tradition of selling red and blue cookies to decide the upcoming Presidential Election.

Lochel’s Bakery in Hatboro has once again brought back its Election Cookies, writes Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.

The local tradition adds a fun twist to election predictions by selling red and blue cookies, serving as an unofficial poll of local voters.

This year, the family-owned bakery at 57 S. York Road in Hatboro has garnered national and international attention, with reports from the New York Post, Fox News, and even the Hindustan Times in New Delhi, India.

So far, the bakery has sold 8,209 Trump cookies and 580 Harris cookies, with one-third of the sales coming from out of state. The informal poll has correctly predicted three out of the last four U.S. presidents.

The cookie craze first gained traction in 2020, giving the bakery a lifeline during the pandemic. The attention also brought new visitors to Hatboro, supporting local businesses.

Kathleen Lochel, co-owner of the bakery, emphasized the positive impact. “People are driving in for cookies but now eating local, visiting local places,” she said

Despite some criticism, the bakery remains committed to selling the cookies, focusing on the benefits they bring to the community. Lochel added, “I’m not going to stop selling these cookies because of the hate-filled messages and comments. We feel blessed to have this opportunity to serve so many.”
