After being introduced to pickleball four years ago, it did not take long for Keca Ward to fall in love with the game, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal. Thus, Forward Pickleball was born.
“I got the bug and needed to know everything about it,” she said. “I even learned how to become a certified instructor.”
The former executive at Ambler-based Phenom People has now decided to turn her obsession with pickleball into a business venture with her husband, David Ward, of Collegeville. The couple will open an indoor pickleball center Forward Pickleball in Audubon later this month.
“The sport is growing and the need for more (indoor) places to play is there because of our weather,” said Ward.
The new 31,000-square-foot facility will have 12 indoor courts. The couple chose the space due in part to its proximity to King of Prussia and easy access to routes 422 and 202 and I-76.
Forward Pickleball is already accepting membership applications. The fee for individual membership is $250 a year, $350 a year for couples, and $450 annually for families.
The center will also offer instruction, clinics, leagues, and open play.
