Ashley Sessa, Schwenksville’s Field Hockey Star Makes ‘SportsCenter’s’ Top Ten Plays
Ashley Sessa, a Schwenksville native and the youngest field hockey player on the U.S. national team to compete at the Paris Games, scored twice in the Wildcats’ win over Iowa on Friday, with her second goal making the night’s SportsCenter Top 10, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The midfielder/forward managed to break free of a double team at the top of the circle before veering left. She then proceeded to lift the ball onto the top of her stick and bounce it twice before hoisting it into the net.
“I just got it in the air and kept going with it,” said Sessa. “Nobody was coming toward me, and I just saw it and I was like, ‘This could be fun.’ I don’t think I’ve ever scored like that before, so that was pretty cool, but having everyone’s reaction after was the best part, having each other’s back. I love these girls.”
Sessa is an Episcopal Academy graduate who transferred into Northwestern from North Carolina, where she won an NCAA championship during her one season with the program.
