Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont is using study abroad programs to introduce its young students to the global culture, writes Kyle Nguyen for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The all-girls school students are offered the chance to travel abroad for a family homestay starting in ninth grade. The trips can last six or twelve days and provide students a level of cultural immersion. They usually take place during spring break or over the summer.

Most recently, the students were able to visit Costa Rica, France, Italy, and Spain. In 2023, the school organized a trip for 77 students to Iceland.

During their stay abroad, the girls get to hone their language skills and take courses while immersing themselves in local culture through assisting with community projects. These projects can range from teaching children to a volunteer project and more.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for girls to get out of their comfort zone a little bit and broaden their perspective and their horizons,” said Sally Keidel, Agnes Irwin’s head of school.
