Abington Friends School, One of the World’s Oldest Quaker Schools, to Host Open House on Oct. 19
Abington Friends School, a national leader in Friends education and one of the oldest Quaker schools in the world, will host an Open House at its campus in Jenkintown on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1-3 PM.
“AFS is always in motion, seeking the truest and most authentic version of itself,” said Head of School Dr. Nicole Hood. “It really does embody the Quaker notion of continuing revelation, always pushing the community forward.”
Founded in 1697 and the oldest school in the nation to have continuously operated on the same piece of land, AFS offers a dynamic academic program that nurtures each student’s intellectual growth — from preschool through 12th grade. Its passionate educators create engaging learning environments where students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop critical thinking skills, and collaborate with their peers. Through a balanced curriculum and innovative teaching methods, AFS students are well-prepared for whatever comes next.
Experiential learning is an integral part of the AFS educational experience. Students engage in hands-on activities, real-world projects, and immersive experiences that extend their learning beyond the classroom. AFS uses field trips, service-learning opportunities, and collaborative projects to help students develop critical skills, apply knowledge in practical ways, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
“AFS is a place where students can build a sturdy sense of self, embrace their ambition with integrity, be a force for justice, become immersed in intellectual adventure, and find the good in themselves and in others,” said Dr. Hood.
