Alanna Messner-Scholl has turned the gardening hobby she picked up during the pandemic into a blooming business with the recently opened Waverly Flower Co. just outside Skippack Village, write Shaunice Ajiwe and Kristen Schott for Philadelphia Magazine.

When she first got into gardening, Messner-Scholl used it as a tool to de-stress from the responsibilities that came with having newborn twins, as well as her career in clinical psychology.

However, she soon realized that she was enjoying her hobby so much that she decided to turn it into a sustainable-floral business — a business that has been doing great. In April, in addition to her other plots in Montgomery County, she opened an appointment-only studio along with a garden near Skippack Village.

She uses seasonal blossoms she grows there — some with the help of a solar-powered aquaponics system — to create beautiful designs for weddings. She also provides newlyweds with the option to donate their florals to local nonprofits after their celebrations are over.
