The Ursinus College community is rallying behind one of their beloved coaches who is battling kidney failure, reports Matt Leon for KYW NewsRadio.

Coach George Trabosh, or as the players call him, Coach Poppy, is the assistant women’s basketball and volleyball coach at Ursinus, and he needs a new kidney.

Trabosh has stage 5 kidney failure, otherwise known as the end-stage of renal failure. He is on kidney dialysis daily, which takes 7 to 8 hours.

It began in 2019, when an issue concerning his blood pressure brought Trabosh to see a doctor. Trabosh was startled when the doctor told him that he would need to get on a list for a kidney.

Trabosh has been coaching in the Philadelphia area for over 30 years. Before Ursinus, he coached for Haverford College, where he helped lead the team to 9 consecutive playoff appearances.

He also coached for Cabrini University and Kennedy-Kendrick High School.

Bobbi Morgan, Ursinsus’ head women’s basketball coach, spent much of her career working alongside Trabosh.

“He’s a great teacher, a great coach, but he’s the friend that you want in your corner — anywhere you go,” said Morgan.
