Despite the Philadelphia region being best known for its cheesesteaks and hoagies, hot dogs have been growing in popularity.
It has been especially true this summer when many restaurant owners and chefs decided to take up the dog as an ideal nostalgic vehicle for toppings and indulgence, write Jenn Ladd and Maddy Sweitzer-Lammé for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Among the many new spots that are now offering hot dogs, two of the best hot dog joints are in Montgomery County.
Big Dogs inside Captain’s Market in Trappe offers delicious quarter-pound all-beef hot dogs on New England-style brioche buns. Whatever toppings you choose, these impressive dogs are knife-and-fork affairs.
Rosey’s in Ambler was opened by chef Chad Rosenthal after he closed Lucky Well last year. The new bánh mì shop showcases Rosenthal’s love of smoked meats. It serves the tasty hot dog bánh mì, which features two seared, butterflied Nathan’s dogs on a toasted baguette, topped with house-made mayo, cucumbers, jalapeño, cilantro, pickled carrots, and pickled radishes.
