Charlie Stamm, a beloved former Cheltenham High School teacher and coach, passed away on June 3 at Bethesda Hospital East in Boynton Beach, Florida, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
He was 75 and succumbed to cancer.
Stamm’s career at Cheltenham High School spanned 33 years, during which he made significant contributions.
From 1974 until his retirement in 2007, he raised $60,000 to establish a state-of-the-art TV studio and developed a TV production curriculum.
He also served as president of the Cheltenham Educators’ Association and coached the wrestling and golf teams for over two decades.
In addition to teaching 11th-grade social studies, applied economics, and special education, Stamm oversaw the media club and student council.
As the executive producer of the school’s TV channel, he created and managed extensive content, leading to the TV studio being named in his honor.
As a coach, Stamm worked tirelessly with wrestlers and golfers, aiming to restore Cheltenham’s tradition of excellence in sports. His leadership extended beyond the classroom, as he negotiated crucial teacher-related issues and supported struggling students.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 PM on July 28 at Goldsteins Rosenbergs Funeral Directors in Philadelphia.
