Weinrich's Bakery in Willow Grove has kept it in the family for 100 years

They’ve been turning out sweet treats for 100 years at Weinrich’s Bakery, writes Tamala Edwards for 6abc.

“We make it special so that when you come in here, you enjoy the experience and you get the top-notch products with the finest ingredients,” said Herman Weinrich, who co-owns the bakery with his wife, Beth.

The two left previous careers to run the Willow Grove bakery. Herman was a 31-year lawyer. His wife was a social worker. They were drawn to the family business.

“My grandfather, Herman Weinrich, for whom I’m named, opened the bakery in New York City in 1919,” Herman Weinrich said.

“And he came over from Germany in 1914,” said his brother Michael Weinrich, the bakery’s production manager who has been baking for 45 years.

Weinrich’s moved to Philadelphia in the 1930s, operating at several locations, until it settled in Willow Grove in 1952.

The family bakers start their day at 4:30 AM and just keep going, baking fresh daily cakes, Danishes, cupcakes. Miniature eclairs, cream puffs, petit fours, cannolis and miniature brownies.

The bakery is now fourth generation, with Michael Kirby working as a supervisory manager in training.

“My grandmother’s a Weinrich,” says Kirby. “I love baking.”
