Perkiomen Valley School District students at Evergreen Elementary School, spent a day adventuring outside the classroom to release trout they had raised since January.

A class of Perkiomen Valley School District fourth-graders spent a day adventuring in nature where they said goodbye to trout they had been raising for months, writes Cierra Genelle for WFMZ 69 News.

Jake Grey, a student at Evergreen Elementary School, highlighted that he and his classmates released a bunch of trout and that it was really fun.

The students from Evergreen Elementary School have been raising the fish since January.

“They’ve been caring for them, helping feed, change water, test the quality of the water, learning all about their lifecycle,” said Kevin Tomlinson, fourth-grade teacher at Evergreen Elementary School.

The kids connected with the fish and even named some of them. Grey named one of them “Chub Chub.”

But last Thursday, it was time to let the over 100 fish free.

“I don’t really want to let them go because we’ve had them for so long,” said Sarah Stover, a student at Evergreen Elementary School.

The fish were released into Perkiomen Creek, after which the students got to travel to several learning stations.
