Andrew and Emily Buschmeier, of Horsham, have joined a growing trend of homeowners adding large sunrooms allowing them to better connect with the outdoors – without having to deal with insects, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The couple have a spacious yard that backs up to woods and a scenic pond. But while they do not mind the wildlife that often pays them a visit, insects are another matter.
“I’m big on being outside, but we’re crushed by mosquitos,” said Andrew.
In February 2023, they decided to hire Chalfont-based Beaver Building & Remodeling to add a four-season sunroom enclosed with windows and a deck to enjoy when the bugs are not biting.
The 20-by-16-foot addition has quickly turned into the favorite spot for the entire family.
“We practically live in there,” said Andrew. “We eat meals, watch TV, and play with the kids there. We absolutely love it.”
The sunroom boasts a cathedral ceiling made out of richly stained pine. Meanwhile, the room’s wood-patterned tile floor is heated. The bottom of the walls below the windows is lined with stones, with mini-splits providing heating and air-conditioning.
The project cost $185,000 and took around three months to finish.
