Founder of King of Prussia-based Morgan Properties Donates $50M to CHOP

Mitchell L. Morgan, founder and chairman of Morgan Properties, has donated $50 million to support the construction of CHOP's Morgan Center for Research and Innovation.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recently received a $50 million gift from Mitchell L. Morgan, founder and chairman of King of Prussia-based national real estate investment management firm Morgan Properties, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The gift will be used to support the 17-story, 350,000-square-foot building that will be known as the Morgan Center for Research and Innovation, honoring the philanthropic donation from Morgan, Hilarie L. Morgan, and their family.

CHOP said the $480 million Morgan Center will significantly expand its lab research capacity while creating more interaction with clinical research activities conducted in the neighboring Roberts Center for Pediatric Research.

The Morgan Center is being designed with numerous spaces to encourage scientific collaboration.

“Their transformational gift will pave the way for expanded breakthroughs in research and care for children. It will also help us recruit top physician-scientists and create vibrant, accessible meeting and green spaces, further connecting our community neighbors to CHOP,” Madeline Bell, CHOP CEO, said in a statement.

The $480 million Morgan Center is scheduled to open in 2025.

“We are honored that our gift will enable CHOP to bolster research and innovation spearheaded by the next generation of scientific and medical leaders,” Mitchell Morgan said in a statement released by CHOP.
