Lucy Olsen, a Spring-Ford High School alum, is volunteering as an assistant coach with the Lady Runnin’ Rebels Basketball Club before heading to the University of Iowa in June for her senior year, writes Josh Verlin for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I love her so much, I just respect her a lot as a person and a player,” said George School’s Sylvie Harrington. “She’s a great role model for us at practice. Just seeing the way she plays and trying to add it into our game, it’s unlike anything else to have her as an assistant coach.”
Olsen led Spring-Ford to the 2021 PIAA 6A state final as a senior, when she committed to Villanova. This year, she is transferring to Iowa.
Earlier this month, Olsen was on the bench at the Hoop Group’s New Jersey showcase in Pitman. She offered in-game feedback to the girls along with a postgame pep talk.
Despite coming to practices the entire spring, this was her first tournament with the team.
“I had to get to know them because it’s hard to coach people when you don’t know their personalities at all,” said Olsen.
