Spring is a great time to take in the garden pageantry on view in Montgomery County.

There is no better time than spring to enjoy gorgeous blooms at the Philadelphia region’s many gardens and arboretums, and some of the best are the Montgomery County spring gardens, write Sandy Hingston, Laura Swartz, Emily Leaman, and Ashley Primis for Philadelphia Magazine.

The Barnes Arboretum in Merion features more than 2,500 varieties of woody plants and perennials, with many considered to be rare.

At Chanticleer in Wayne, you can take a looping world tour on its mile-long garden path. The Teacup Garden, and a verdant mess of tropical vines, are some of the highlights.

Laurel Hill, which consists of two historic cemeteries in West Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, is a 265-acre arboretum with over 6,000 trees and shrubs from 700 species.

Stoneleigh in Villanova was recently purchased by Natural Lands and is now a free public garden.

Meanwhile, Welkinweir in Pottstown offers a stunning display of trees and shrubs. Some beautiful sights come from the blooming stewartia, franklinia, clethra, and hydrangeas.

Finally, Awbury Arboretum in Germantown is a 56-acre flora oasis known for its resident goats.
