Kat Dennings, a Bryn Mawr native, is teaming up with Tim Allen in a new ABC sitcom pilot titled “Shifting Gears,” writes Chris Compendio for The Philly Voice.

In this family comedy, Dennings will play Riley, an estranged daughter who moves back in with her father after her divorce, bringing her two teenagers along.

Allen plays her father, Matt, a widower who owns a classic car restoration shop. The plot revolves around their attempts to rebuild their strained relationship.

In addition to her starring role, Dennings will also serve as a producer. The project is backed by 20th Television and is being developed by writers Mike Scully, known for “The Simpsons,” and Julie Thacker Scully of “Duncanville.”

This role could mark Dennings’ return to network television following the conclusion of “2 Broke Girls” in 2017. She has since starred in the Hulu comedy “Dollface” and revisited her “Thor” character in Marvel’s Disney+ series “WandaVision” and “What If…?

If the pilot is successful, it could become a regular feature on ABC’s schedule.
